A legend is a mythological story which is passed on orally from one generation to the other. There is no evidence  to prove its accuracy but it still remains in circulation for its instructive vaLue. This poem is called a legend because it is the story of Saint Peter and the old woman frOm ancient times. Its historical origin cannot be proved but it teaches the lesson of love, kindness and charity.
