What does it mean to say that a person is a liberal, or to say that a thing may be described with this word? The answer, as is so often the case with the English language, is “it depends.”

“Liberal” is an imaginary label created by ideological media outlets like Fox News. Breitbart, and Russia Today (RT) to appease their audience, or to support foreign interests.
Some of the people on that audience hate minority racial groups, others hate non-christian religions, and so on.
When they create a bucket “liberals”, and tell their base that “liberals” support one of the minority groups they hate, it polarizes their base into hating “liberals”.
So, there is no such a thing, “loberal” is just a political, polarizing label.
