LIFE PROCESSES

DEFINITION:-

In biology, Life Process is a word used to define the various metabolic (Biochemical) processes which occurs inside our body to sustain life in us.

First of all, What is Life? How to understand it?

In macroscopic understanding, Life is something which can makes senses active, makes us to move, grow, feel and walk but the specific understanding is from Microscopic Level, the cell is the smallest unit of a body which characterised a body as a living body.

Hence starting from kingdom Monera, Protista till Animalia all belongs to Living being consist of cell while in higher level of Organism those cell shows cell division and differentiation leading to formation a unit of tissue, tissue together performing a particular function is said as Organ and those organ constitute the organ system and finally the Organism itself.

It is the reason cell is known as Functional, Structural and Fundamental unit of life/Organism.

Types of Life Process Performed

Nutrition

The first requirement to sustain life is to have energy for various process, body growth, development and other fundamental function. This Nutrition helps in formation of energy after the complex nutrition converts to simpler by various Enzymatic activities and associated glands by process called Digestion.Plants also perform nutrition by Photosynthesis and Respirations. And it is important for protection from diseases.

Respiration

This involves the process in which the glucose breaks to form produce with or without oxygen. In aerobic organism like humans oxygen is used while in anaerobic organism like yeast it doesn't need oxygen. It involves organs like Lungs, fins, trachea etc.

Transportation

Every Organism needs a transportation if made nutrition and oxygen for sustaining life. in smaller organism, diffusion helps while in developed, circulatory system like blood, heart, artery and vein is invloved. Some have closed while some have open circulatory system. Plants have vascular bundles tissue for this purpose.

Excretion

It involves removal of waste products like Carbondioxide, Urea, sweat, Nitrogenous waste, gum, dried leaves etc. In higher organism Excretory system involves kidney, ureter, bladder etc. while in plants transpiration helps. In microbs, diffusion is enough.

Control and Coordination

It involves control of functioning of body by CBS (Brain and spinal cord) and PNS (Nerves) in animals while plants have specific hormones for this purpose and for tropic movements. Animals also possess endocrine glands for secretion of various important hormones.

Reproduction

Though it is not a necessary life process to give birth to young one for an organism but it plays a very important role in sustaining any species on this world and to bring variation and evolution. It is of two types i.e. Sexual (involvement of two opposite sex gametes) and Asexual (Without involvements of gametes).
