what is light scattered by air

Selective scattering (or Rayleighscattering) occurs when certain particles are more effective atscattering a particular wavelength of light. Airmolecules, like oxygen and nitrogen for example, are small in size and thus more effective atscattering shorter wavelengths oflight (blue and violet).
