What is lightning conductor? Explain its construction and working.
Answers
Explanation:
Newton's third law: If an object A exerts a force on object B, then object B must exert a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction back on object A. This law represents a certain symmetry in nature: forces always occur in pairs, and one body cannot exert a force on another without experiencing a force itself.

A specially designed device which is used to protect buildings, tall towers, etc. from lightning is called lightning conductor.
It consists of a thick metal rod with spikes at the top end. The rod is fixed on top of a building such that the spiked ends point upwards. The bottom end of the rod is connected to a copper plate buried deep under the Earth. During a lightning, electric charges will flow through the lightning conductor to the Earth and not through the building.
