Answer:The reactant which is consumed first and thus limits or stops the reaction is called as limiting reagent

Explanation:Ex- C + O2 = CO2

Let us take 12 gms of carbon and 16 gms of oxygen as reactants

Then If 12gms of carbon reacts with 32 gms of oxygen( from chemical equation)

We have 16gms of oxygen

So, therefore oxygen is consumed first thus limits the reaction

A reactant in a chemical reaction that determines the amount of product that is produced is the limiting reactant or limiting reagent. The reason for a limiting reactant is that elements and compounds react in a balanced chemical equation according to the mole ratio between them.
