What is literacy? What should we do to increase literacy in Nepal?
Answers
Answer:
Literacy is popularly understood as an ability to read and write in at least one method of writing, an understanding reflected by mainstream dictionaries. In this view, illiteracy would be considered to be the inability to read and write.
The literacy rate of Nepal is 65.9% average with male being 75.1% and female being 57.4% . As per the statistics the literacy rate is quite low yet every year this keeps on increasing as people are valuing education a lot more. For increasing the number of educated individual in Nepal , the following points should be brought into effect.
Providing people with basic needs such as food, shelter, clothes is the first thing to do. To be honest people can live without education but living without above mentioned needs is impossible. After the fulfillment of basic needs is only when people will think about education.
Brain drain is also another reason. The well educated people who know the importance of knowledge are going away in the quest to utilize their knowledge in the outer world. And only few educated people are left to change the education system which makes the work difficult. Utilization of the educated people is very important in my view.
People in the rural areas of Nepal often think education as a waste of time and money. To make people realize the actual value of education awareness programs, dramas, plays can be organized. People often live studying because of in ability to buy materials, donating of books, pencils and other material may be a great step.
For me , education is not about going to a school 8 hours a day. For me education is about learning rather reading . Seminars, conference, these are important way from which people can be educated. Organizing camps time to time where people are taught various things which can be applied in their daily life is very important. And if people are considering degree as education , then providing a degree for every program they participate in will be useful.
Internet can be a means to educate people but this is a little tough as many people don’t have access to internet. But other forms of media such as radios, Televisions , Newspaper can be used . A channel can be opened where people are provided with essential knowledge every now and then.
If people would word hand in hand to educate their community, it is not very difficult to increase the literacy rate. Don’t just point out the problem, try to find a solution for it.
Hope the see every people of the world educated
Answer:
Literacy means the ability to read and write. The one who has ability to read and write is called literate. The literates can understand and read simple and short sentences written about the daily life activities in their own language. We can increase the literacy by providing scholarship, free education. children find learning easy if the conversation is in mother tongue. so we must encourage teaching in mother tongue. Handing free books is not enough; fostering love for reading should be the aim.
