Litmus paper is used to test the pH of a liquid. ... It is made from mixture of different dyes extracted from lichens applied to paper. Blue litmus paper turns red under acidic conditions and red litmus paper turns blue under basic or alkaline conditions. It's most common use is to test swimming pool water.
