The liver is the largest gland in the human body.

The weight of the liver is about 1.5 kg of \sf \dfrac {1}{40} weight of the body.It is soft and reddish-brown in colour.The liver is situated at the right upper side of the abdomen.It has two lobes, They are larger right lobe and the smaller left lobe.

Functions of the liver :-

• It is responsible for storing Iron in the form of ferritin.

•The liver is responsible for the elimination of pathogens and kupffer's cells.

• Liver synthesis vitamin A from carotene.

• It also forms glucose from excess organic acids.It stores glycogen in our body.

• It secretes out blood anticoagulant named heparin.

• It secretes bile juice which works on the emulsification of fats.

Bile :

Bile is a yellowish-green and alkaline juice.It consists of bile pigments and bile salts.The bile juice is secreted by the liver.This juice breakdown the large fat molecules into small molecules.It prevents the disintegration of food. The bile juice is stored in the gall bladder.
