Problems like drainage, road maintenance, maintaining records of birth and death etc cannot be properly dealt with by central and state governments. Such governments are distant from such problems and may lack the information to resolve such problems. Instead, problems of this nature should be left to local self governments.

The significance of the local self government is that it bestows numerous benefits upon the inhabitants of the areas it operates in. It functions as a school of democracy wherein citizens are imparted political and popular education regarding issues of local and national importance.
