Very Philosophical Question but as far as my understanding goes

Love is the feeling of you care for someone to an extent that you can die for it. You don't want it but you want its happiness. You wont harm it for your profit but would harm yourself for its. It well beyond the humanitarian thought process. It is something divine shaped by the god himself.

Another understanding can be :

When you like a flower you pluck it but when you love a flower you care and water it.
