What is lower epidermis on the surface of the leaf?

Answer:

Oh, that's just a single-layered cell structure containing the stomata and the guard cells. This layer secretes a waxy substance --- cuticle which keeps the leaf moist and water-proof. The lower epidermis basically protects the undersurface of the leaf. There is a similar upper epidermis too.
