Your lungs are a pair of organs in your chest. They have a spongy texture and are pinkish-gray in color. When you inhale (breathe in), air enters your lungs and oxygen from the air moves from your lungs to your blood.

Lungs :

• Lungs are a pair of organs which helps in exchange of gases between the blood and the air .

• The lungs are mainly situated in the thoracic cavity. They are located just behind, and to either side of, the heart.

• The trachea divides into right and left primary bronchi. Now each bronchi undergoes repeated divisions to form secondary and tertiary bronchi and bronchioles which eventually ends up into very thin terminal bronchioles.

• Each terminal bronchiole give rise to a number of thin , irregular sized and vascular bag like structures called ALVEOLI.

• Therefore, the branching network of bronchi , bronchioles and alveoli comprises the lungs.

• The main function of lungs is respiration. Their principal function is to transport oxygen from the atmosphere into the bloodstream, and to release carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the atmosphere. This exchange of gases is accomplished in alveoli.

Hope it helps!
