Answer :-

In general terms, Lymph can be defined as a clear colourless fluid, similar to plasma but with much less amount of protein.

Extra Information :-

  • In addition to a blood vascular system, all vertebrates posses a lymphatic system.

  • Lymph can be defined as blood without Red Blood Cells (RBCs).

  • The most important centre for the production of lymph is the "Intestinal space".

  • Lymph vessels unite to form larger lymph vessels which ultimately drain into two large lymph vessels called "Thoracic duct" and "Right lymphatic duct".

  • The Thoracic duct is larger and longer than the right lymphatic duct.

  • The Thoracic duct begins as a prominent sac in the abdominal cavity called "Cisterna chyli".

  • Lymph from the right portion of the body enters the blood stream at the "Right Subclavian vein" and rest of the body at the "Left Subclavian vein".

  • The movement of lymph is mainly due to the squeezing action of the surrounding muscles.

  • Lymph circulation is slow and uncertain.

  • Physical exercise increases the circulation of lymph inside the body.
