Lymphatic System -
The system comprising of fine thin walled channels through which most of the lymph (a fluid) flows.
Difference between lymph and blood -
1. Lymph is filtered blood plasma, but it has lower protein contents than plasma.
2. Lymph is colourless, clear and watery fluid; whereas Blood is red coloured, thick and heavy fluid.
Direction -
Lymph flows in one direction only. It flows upward direction only.
Functions of Lymphatic System -
1. Helps in distribution of nutrients and oxygen to tissues.
2. Absorbs fatty acids and glycerol through lacteals.
3. Helps in removal of nitrogenous wastes and carbon dioxide from tissues.
4. Lymphoctyes destroy harmful pathogens.
5. Controls the concentration of proteins in tissue fluid.
