in a magnet there 2 p-oles. one is called north pole and the other pole is south pole. when you take two magnets, the like poles (i.e. is the south poles or north poles of both the magnets) repel and opposite poles of a magnet (that is one north pole of one magnet and south pole of the other magnet) attract each other.
