explanation : which affects all rotating balls or cylinders as they fly through air . as the ball picks up speed  the air on the front side of the ball is going in the same direction as its spins and therby it gets dragged along with the ball and deflected back. the air on the other side is moving opposite to the ball spin sop the flow separates from the ball instead of getting deflected . the net result is the ball pushes the air one way so the air applies an equal force on the ball on the other way , this is known as magnus effect.

definition : the force exerted on a rapidly spinning cylinder or sphere moving through air or another fluid in a direction at an angle to the axis of spin. This force is responsible for the swerving of balls when hit or thrown with spin.
