the force exerted on a rapidly spinning cylinder or sphere moving through air or another fluid in a direction at an angle to the axis of spin. This force is responsible for the swerving of balls when hit or thrown with spin.

Magnus effect is a phenomena which explains the spinning of ball.
When a ball spins, it drags along a layer of air with itself.When ball moves forward the air ahead rushes backward to fill the space left vacant by the ball.
The velocity of ball above ball is opposite to the direction of spin below it.

Thus , relative velocity of air with respect to ball is larger at upper part than in region below the ball.
The streamline gets crowded above and rarified below.

This causes pressure above ball to be smaller than below.( due to energy conservation.)

This causes an upward force and dynamic lift on the ball.
This is the Magnus effect.
