It is a kind of land revenue system existed in british india under the leadership of Lord William Bentick the first governer general of India .According to this the land is divided into small peices called mahals comprising of one or two villages.
Each mahal was regulated by the village committees and tax collection was done by the village committee and then handed over to the british.This made tax collection easy.
