mahalwari system was one of the three main revenue system of land tenure in British India the other two being jamindar(landlord)and the ryotwari( individual cultivator).
it was introduced because the government of William bentinck made a thorough revision of the act of 1823 and thus the mahalwari system introduced. they realised that the result of regulation of 1822 was nothing other than a widespread misery after a prolong consultation the government finally passed a new regulation in 1833.
