What is main difference between methane & ethane

The main difference is their no.of bonds with carbon.

Methane is of 1 carbon atom whereas ethane contains of 2 carbon atoms

methane has one carbon atom and 4 hydrogen atoms with the formula ch4

whereas ethane has 2 carbon atoms and 6 hydrogen atoms with the formula c2h6
