Answer:

The altitude in Ladakh varies from about 3000m to 8000m.

• The air at this altitude is so thin that the heat of the sun can be felt

intensely. The area experiences freezing winds and burning hot sunlight.

• Due to its high altitude, the climate is extremely cold and dry.

• The day temperatures in summer are just above zero degree and the night

temperatures are below –30°C.

• As it lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, there is little rainfall, as low

as 10 cm every year

Explanation:

Explanation:• Due to high aridity, the vegetation is sparse. Only scanty patches of grasses

and shrubs are found here. However, groves of willows and poplars can be

seen in the valleys.

• During the summers, fruit trees such as apples, apricots and walnuts are grown. People are also busy cultivating barley, potatoes, peas, beans and

turnip.

• Several species of birds like robins, redstarts, Tibetan snowcock, raven and

hoopoe are common here.

• The animals of Ladakh are wild goats and sheep, yak and special kinds of

dogs.

• Yak’s milk is used to make cheese and butter and the hair of goat and

sheep is used to make woollens.

• The Chiru or Tibetan antelope is also hunted for its wool (known as

Shahtoosh) because it is extremely warm and light in weight.
