Answer:

AC motors can run on both single-phase and three-phase supplies. DC motors can run only on single-phase supply. ... In AC motors, the armature is stationary while the magnetic field rotates. In DC motors, the armature rotates while the magnetic field remains stationary.

AC motor the emerging call does not revolves in One Direction ,180 degree in one direction and other half revolution in other direction, while dc motor revolves in continuously in One Direction because of the commutator present in it which reverses the direction of current in AC motor there is no commutator but a pair of split rings is present.

The major difference between AC motor and DC motor are:

AC Motors:

1) AC motors are discovered by Nikolas Tesla

2) They are only powered by the source that produces AC current like mains, AC generators...etc.

3)They are powerful.

4) AC motors have 2 carbon brushes.

DC Motors:

1) DC motors discovered by Thomas elva Edison.

2) They are powered by the source that produces DC current like solar panels, Batteries etc.

3) They are less powerful

4) DC motors have 4 carbon brushes.
