Majoritarianism can be defined as when a group has many people and they have the right to decide on this thing, it is called after a majority.

EXPLANATION:

In simple words, when all people have the right to decide on any one subject, then it is called a majoritarianism. The leaders of the Sinhalese community wanted to dominate the government on the basis of their majority and for this, they took many steps under the majority tribute.

  • Sri Lanka became independent nation in 1948.
  • A law was enacted in 1956 under which bypassing Tamil, Sinhalese was declared the sole official language.  
  • A policy of prioritizing the Sinhalese in universities and government jobs also came into play.  
  • It was also made in the new constitution that the government would preserve and promote Buddhist views.
