Common causes of loss of appetite include cancers, tumours, depressive illness and other mental illnesses, liver or kidney disease, chronic infections etc. Those with a limited knowledge about nutrition tend to follow an unhealthy diet with not enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals and are at risk of malnutrition.
Dyspepsia, also known as indigestion or upset stomach, is a term that describes discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen. It is not a disease. Dyspepsia is a group of symptoms which often include bloating, nausea and burping.
Bolus refers to a round lump of swallowing food which passes from the mouth to the esophagus; while chyme refers to the semi liquid and partially digested food mixed with the stomach secretions which passes from the stomach into the small intestine.
