It derives from the political and economic thought of the Reverend Thomas Robert Malthus, as laid out in his 1798 writings, An Essay on the Principle of Population.

Back in 1798 malthus proposed this theory.

According to this theory population growth occurs exponentially and it is related with the birth rate.

Limitations of this theory are;

1) growth formulas are not correct and oversimplified

2) evolution of modern science

3) evolution of modern agricultural system

4) Import of food supplies

These points mentioned in the malthusian theory were the criticised points and limitations of this theory.
