the law stating that the intensity of a beam of plane-polarized light after passing through a rotatable polarizer varies as the square of the cosine of the angle through which the polarizer is rotated from the position that gives maximum intensity. Expand. Also called law of Malus, Malus cosine-squared law.

Hey !!

It states that if completely plane polarised light is passed through an analyser, the intensity of light transmitted ∝ cos²θ is angle between planes of transmission of polariser and analyser.

              I = I₀ cos²θ ( Malus Law )

If incident light is unpolarised, then I = I₀ / 2

since, (cos²θ)average for all the directions = 1/2

Good luck !!
