Manufacturing is the production of products for use or sale, using labor and machines, tools, and chemical or biological processing or formulation. It is the essence of secondary industry.

Production of goods in large quantities by processing of raw materials to more valuable products is called manufacturing.

i)People employed in the secondary activities manufacture the primary materials into finished goods.

ii)These finished goods are more useful, hence more in value. For example, paper is manufactured from wood, sugar from sugarcane, iron and steel from iron ore, aluminium from bauxite,etc.

Thus, raw materials are transformed into a wide variety of finished goods of higher value.
