Q. What is manuring?
Answer :
Manuring -
It is the process/method used to maintain the fertility of soil. [ Maintain nutritional value of soil ]
Here are some methods for replenishing the fertility of soil :-
(1) Crop Rotation :
Some crops like wheat and rice use a lots of nitrogen of the soil. The lost nitrogen can be easily replenished in the soil by growing one leguminous crop between two successive cereal crops.
(2) Manures :
Wastes of animals and plants can be used as manure to replenish the nutrient deficient soil. Farmers dump animal dung, vegetables and crop wastes at open place and left them to be decomposed by bacteria and fungi. After a month or so, the manure is ready and is mixed up with soil before sowing. Manure not only increases the nutrients, but also enhances the water holding capacity of the soil.
(3) Fertilizers : These are chemical substances rich in specific nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Fertilisers are produced in factories and are easier to store and transport as compared to manures. ⭐[ Over use of fertilisers can change the chemical nature of the soil. ]⭐
