MARCOS, previously named as Marine Commando Force (MCF), is the special forces unit of the Indian Navy created for conducting special operations such as amphibious warfare, close quarter combat, counter-terrorism, direct action, special reconnaissance, unconventional warfare, hostage rescue, personnel recovery, combat search and rescue, asymmetric warfare, foreign internal defence, counterproliferation, amphibious reconnaissance including hydrographic
reconnaissance. The MCF is specially organised, trained and equipped for the conduct of special operations in a maritime environment


MARCOS IMPORTANCE IN INDIA :

➡They are capable to undertake operations from AIR , LAND and SEA.
➡They are skilled combat divers and parachutists and are also capable of Anti-hijacking or Anti-piracy operations.
➡Some modules of their training are with Para-Commandos of the Indian Army in Commando Training Schools.
➡They are static line para jump qualified and some are qualified for free-fall (HALO/HAHO) para jumps – High Altitude Low Opening and High Altitude High Opening.
➡They go through a very stringent selection and training process where attrition rate hovers around 90 %.Well, as many of you don’t know they are amongst the handful of the special forces from around the world that are capable of being para dropped into the sea with the full combat load.
