Markovnikov's has mainly two rules:-

a) First Rule:- If molecule of HX is added up in the unsymmetrical unsaturated hydrocarbon then the electrophile that is H± will move to unsaturated carbon which is bearing more number of hydrogen atoms.

Mechanism:- It completes the criteria of electrophilic addition that's why it is illustrated by the action of HCL to propene.

(b) Second Rule:- If on vinyl halide or on analogous compounds HX is added then on the carbon atom halogen will attach itself on which the halogen atom is already present.

Mechanism:- As we know that all the polar reagents of a general structure YZ(in + and - respectively) add unsymmetrical unsaturated carbon as according to the Markovnikov's rules. Those type of additions are known as normal Markovnikov's rule and on the side in case the addition is in opposite manner then that condition is known as anti Markovnikov's addition or abnormal.
