The policy in which boards go lineant in checking question papers and give grace marks to students. This policy counters the soaring cut-offs.

sm9874252692: does it means same as upgradation in cbse?
Anonymous: actually it will not affect deserving students much but the ones who are not even sure of passing will get affected the most as boards used to pass a candidate with the min passing marks if he/she is failing
sm9874252692: i am just asking that our marks be upgraded or not?
Anonymous: on the basis of co scholastics???
Anonymous: you are asking??
Anonymous: even i am hoping that they should consider upgrading
sm9874252692: Yes

CBSE followed marks moderation policy in three cases

1. If a student was failing a subject just because of a few marks
2. If any question in a question paper was very difficult
3. If any question has an error

A panel of experts would sit to decide the grace marks to be given to students in case of the conditions mentioned in the second and third point above.

Due to it, many students scored marks more than ninety-five percent between the years 2008 to 2014. Hence, the board decided to do away with the moderation policy which caused a flurry among the CBSE students. They feel that the other state board students would be at an advantage as the boards are going on with the moderation policy.

As per the apex court, this year the board will follow the grace marks policy which was in practice earlier as it feels that applying the change would be unfair as when the students filled in their forms, the grace policy was quite in place and practiced.
