Anything that has mass and occupies space is termed as matter
It is a empirical quantity and does it has no relation to anything
However Einstein time relativity theory disapproves this but it is not required to understand it now

Elements that are malleable ductile sonorous can conduct electricity and are good conductors of heat are termed as metals
