matter is something that occupies space and has mass and can be perceived by our senses

energy is not a matter
but everything sensed by us is matter

Answer:

Anything that occupies some space and have some mass (volume) is called matter. e.g, solid, gas etc.

But the substance which doesn't occupies some space and haven't any mass is not a matter. e.g, light, heat, etc.
