Maxwell's Cork Screw rule:
Imagine a right handed cork screw with its axis coincident with the current carrying wire. Now rotate the screw to advance it in the direction of the current, the direction in which the thumb rotates gives the direction of the magnetic field lines
PURPOSE OF USING IT :
Maxwell's right hand thumb rule is also known as Maxwell's corkscrew rule. It is used to find out the direction of magnetic field along a straight current carrying conductor.. next draw the magnetic lines of force due to a circular wire carrying current.

Maxwell’s corkscrew rule is also called the right-hand thumb rule of Maxwell.
Explanation:
- Visualize lashing a corkscrew in the current’s direction, then the direction of its handle turning offers the magnetic field lines direction.
- To find the straight wire carrying current and the magnetic field in a circular loop, it is used.
- When there is a forward movement of the right-handed screw in the conventional current’s direction, then the screw rotation’s direction shows the magnetic field lines direction.
