Conductors are materials that permit electrons to flow freely from particle to particle. Conductors allow for charge transfer through the free movement of electrons. In contrast to conductors, insulators are materials that impede the free flow of electrons from atom to atom and molecule to molecule.

Answer:

conductors

  • metals like copper, aluminum, silver, platinum, etc have a number of free electrons and they possess small resistivity which increases with temperature and allow the current to move smoothly are called conductors
  • examples of conductors are metals and alloys

insulators

  • these have practically no free electrons and possess very greater resistivity as compared to conductors which decreases with rise in temperature and insulators doesn't allow the current to pass through them.
  • examples of insulators are wood, mica, glass.
