THE PROCESS OF SPLITTING OF WHITE LIGHT INTO SEVEN COLOURS IS CALLED DISPERSION OF LIGHT AND  THE PROCESS IN WHICH A WAVE OR BEAM OF PARTICLES IS DIFFUSED BY COLLISIONS WITH PARTICLES OF THE MEDIUM THAT IT TRANSVERSES  IS CALLED SCATTERING OF LIGHT.

Dispersion :-

Dispersion only occurs through prism , which splits white light into its 7 colours i.e. VIBGYOR , Newton one day , somehow was doing his experiments on white light & passed white light through prism & Placed a screen in front of it & that day the mystery got solved that white light itself consists of 7 colours & he named that phenomenon dispersion.

Scattering :-

Scattering of light is quite different , scattering of light means colliding of particles , due to colliding with particles light got scattered & we we different colours like blue colour of our sky is due to scattering of particles with light
