Heteroatom is any atom other than carbon and hydrogen.

Examples: Nitrogen, sulphur, chlorine and bromine are heteroatoms.

The name and formula of two organic compounds containing different heteroatoms are (i) chloromethane, CH3Cl, and (ii) formaldehyde HCHO.
