Along with Mahagara, it is one of the few Neolithic sites in Uttar Pradesh. Both are in district Prayagraj. Also, Koldihwa and Mahagara, both are on the opposite banks of Belan River

The site of Koldihwa provided the earliest evidence for the domestication of rice. It is the oldest evidence of rice cultivation in any part of the world. The agriculture in the Belan valley began around 6,500 B.C. Besides rice, cultivation of barley was also attested at Mahgara.
