Pollination
➝ The transfer of pollen grains from the anthers to the stigma of pistil is known as pollination. Pollination is the first step in the process of seed formation.
Pollination are of two types:-
◼ Self pollination
◼ Cross pollination
Self pollination
Self-pollination takes place within the same flower or between two flowers on the same plant.
Cross pollination
Cross pollination occurs between two flowers on the two separate plants of same kind.
Agents of pollination:-
◼ Pollination by insects
- Nectar that produce nectar
- Sweet smell and bright colours
- Sticky Sigma and sticky pollen grain
◼ Pollination by wind
- Small, white ,dull coloured and does'nt produce nectar
- Produce small and dry light pollen grains in large number to be carried away by wind
- Long anthers
◼ Pollination by water
- small and light for floating
- Pollen grains are produced in large number.
