What is Reproduction?

The biological process in which every living organism give birth to young ones of their own kind is called Reproduction. Reproduction insures continuity of various species.

Mainly there are 2 types of reproduction.

→ Sexual reproduction

→ Asexual reproduction

Asexual reproduction

•In Asexual reproduction single parent is involved.

•The entire reproduction process takes less time and less energy.

•Population can increase at faster rate.

•It involves less variations.

•The species is very vulnerable to change in environment.

•This doesn't lead to evolution.

•For example: Amoeba.

Sexual reproduction

•It involves two parents (male and female)

•The entire reproduction process takes longer time and more energy.

•Population increase relatively slowly.

•It involves more variations.

•Species can adapt to an environment which changes.

•This leads to evolution.

•For example:Humans.

In case of Plants, reproduction is done by the process of Pollination.

Pollination:The transfer of pollen grains from anther of stigma of a flower. Pollination occurs only in sexual reproduction.

There are two types of Pollination:

→Self pollination

→Cross pollination

Self pollination

If the pollen grains lands on the stigma of the same flower it is termed as Self pollination.

Cross pollination

If a pollen of plant lands on the stigms of another flower on the same plant or a different plant of the same kind is called Cross pollination.
