Answer:

Rusting is an oxidation reaction. The iron reacts with water and oxygen to form hydrated iron(III) oxide, which we see as rust. Here is the word equation for the reaction: iron + water + oxygen → hydrated iron(III) oxide.

it can be prevented by galvanisation

Hope it helps

Rusting is a oxidation reaction.

Rusting is a oxidation reaction.  when a piece of iron left for sometime in open air or in water it get covered with rusty brown coloured substance called Rust.

It is a chemical as well as irreversible process.

Prevention measure to avoid rusting as:

  1. oil and grease: It is procees used to provide proper friction and prevent from direct contact of water and air.
  2. Galvanization : It is a process of applying protective zinc coating to prevent rusting.

   3.  Painting : painting is used to provide coating on iron surface to avoid direct contact of water and air.

   4.  Alloying :  Alloying prevents rusting by mixing several metals that forms protective layer over the surface of metal.

Ex : Alloy of BRONZE : Copper + Tin
