In case there is a judgement by single judge bench, there arises no question.
In case of a division bench, if there is a split verdict, then the views of the judges are locked and the matter is adjudged by a third jurist.
After division bench, we do not have any bench consisting of even number of judges. It can be either 5 Judge bench or 7 judge bench or more. So the opinion of the majority is given as the verdict.

A split verdict means the decision in which one party's claims prevail on some and the other party's claim prevails on others.
- Making a final decision on some topic or case is meant by the word verdict.
- In the context of the law or criminal law this means the decision taken by the Judges, that one person is guilty on one case but not guilty on another case.
- In the split verdict majority of Judges comes to one decision and the rest have some other decision, in this case, the subject will refer to the third judge and after studying the case completely they will make a decision.
