We need a standard meridian for Indiabecause there is a time lag of about 2 hours between Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh. To avoid confusion of time in different states , India adopted a standard meridian which is 82 degrees 30 E and it passes through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.

As we know that there are 24 time zone on earth and each country has its time zone that comes in 24 times zone. In 24 hours the earth rotates 360 degree and because of this at every degree there is 4 min difference that is called local time. so most of the countries have long longitudinal distance and because of this there is long time difference in the country from east to west so those countries need standard time for whole nation that’s y we need standard meridian.
