Stomata

Stomata are the tiny pores present on the surface of a plant's leaf.

They are more in number on the lower epidermis than the upper epidermis. This is in order to prevent excess of transpiration.

Functions of Stomata

  1. Help in removal of excess of water from the plant, creating a transpirational pull responsible for transportation of water in the plant.
  2. They allow exchange of gases for respiration.
  3. They allow gaseous exchange for photosynthesis.

Stomata are tiny openings or pores in plant tissue that allow for gas exchange. ... Specialized cells known as guard cells surround stomata and function to open and close stomatal pores. Stomata allow a plant to take in carbon dioxide, which is needed for photosynthesis.
