Swaraj means self rule( swa- self, raj- rule) . it means the rule of the subjects/ citizens, for the citizens and by the citizens themselves. The independent kingdom, where no outsider dominates is called Swarajya.

Shivaji Maharaj first brought forth the concept of Hindavi Swaraj. Later on, Lokmanya Tilak said through his famous slogan," Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it"
