Tad is a tree (palm tree) and patra mean leaves of it. Therefore, Tadpatras means leaves of palm tree which, were used to write manuscripts. Dry Palm leaves were used as writing materials (used as paper) in South Asia and in Southeast Asia dating back to the 5th century BCE and possibly much earlier.
