Thales theorem is also known as Basic Proportionality theorem.
According to it if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle intersecting the other two sides, then it divides the two sides in the same ratio.

A straight line drawn parallel to a side of triangle intersecting the other two sides, divides the sides in the same ratio.
In Δ ABC, D is a point on AB and E is a point on AC.
Draw a line DE || BC
∠ ABC = ∠ADE =∠1 [Corresponding angles are equal because DE || BC]
∠ACB = ∠AED = ∠2 [Corresponding Angel's are equal because DE || BC]
∠DAE = ∠BAE = ∠3 [Both triangles have a common angle]
ΔABC ~ ΔADE
