Basically, the Preamble sets out the objectives of our Constitution. As has been said by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar “It is the key to our Constitution.”
Preamble is the philosophy of constitution that our nation builders envisaged .Eventhough preamble is neither a limitation nor a source of power for any constitutional authorities it is morally binding on part of them to uphold the values mentioned in the preamble. They are "sovereign socialist secular democratic republic" .Post independence,India went through trying times in holding these values.Supreme court in landmark judgements time and again reiterated the importance of preamble in the governance."Preamble is not a stick but a will"
It retains the basic authority of a Democracy,i.e. the people of India. It has the ideals of liberty, justice, equality and talks about the dignity of people.
