DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid). It's functions are:-
1) it is the genetic material that influences the phenotype of living organisms.
2) it helps in inheritance by transferring the genetic material from parent cells to daughter cells.
3) it helps in reproduction.

Hey friend,
Chromosomes contains information for inheritance of features from parents to next generation in the form of DNA (Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid) molecules.
DNA molecules contain the information essential for constructing and organising cells. Functional segments of DNA are known as genes.
In a cell which is not dividing, this DNA acts as part of chromatin material. Chromatin material looks like a entangled mass off thread like structures.
